You may ask yourself…
… well? How did I get here?
(If we’re going to work together you should know that I’m very opinionated about music and I litter my communications with references to favourite songs. See above!)
The story of how I started working as a podcast editor is a long one.
But here’s the short version:
- As a music obsessive from a young age, I’ve been involved in studio and home recording projects since my teenage years.
- After leaving university with a degree in English and Music, I fell into a 20-year career in arts marketing. I eventually realised that one thing that came naturally to me was writing for different audiences, and editing other people’s words to better reflect what they intended.
- Around this time, I started editing video content in personal and professional settings.
- Halfway through my career, I was diagnosed with a chronic health condition. Sometime after this, I began writing about my health experiences online.
- Eventually, I stepped away from marketing manager roles when full-time work got too much.
- Around this time, a US website that I wrote for held a conference in Philadelphia, so my wife and I went for a long weekend (from the UK). I met a fellow contributor who had her own podcast, and we stayed in touch.
- Later that year, she was complaining about her podcast editor. I asked what it involved, and when she told me, it seemed like the ideal way to use all of the skills I had – video and audio production, combined with editing people’s words to make sure that their messages come across clearly.
- I said, “I could do that!”
- The Podcasting Editor has been my full-time gig since 2019.
